Garden railway raises £371

Sunshine attracted a record turnout for the Green Valley Railway’s spring open weekend. On 9 and 10 April, 143 visitors enjoyed the model trains, in Westway, raising £371 for the Children’s Society and Holy Cross Church funds.
Five burglaries in single day

On 3 February 2011 there were five daytime burglaries in West Barnes, all within a few roads of each other, Merton Neighbourhood Watch Manager Lee Roberts has warned. All burglaries were rear entry with two attempted and three substantive. A car was stolen from a burglary in Seaforth Avenue. Prevention advice:
22nd Scouts’ new website

Dog scare in Joseph Hood

Police are investigating a report of a dog dangerously out of control in Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields on Monday, 20 September, 2010 at about 3pm. It involved a Rottweiler cross and a small white dog. If you saw the incident or have any information that could assist, please contact the West Barnes Safer Neighbourhood Team. Residents Association AGM

Residents local to Motspur Park road are invited to attend the Motspur Park Residents Association’s annual general meeting at Fulham Football Club’s training ground, Motspur Park, on Thursday, 11 November. Because of security arrangements at the ground, anyone wishing to attend should let the MPRA know, before Monday, 8 November, their name, house number and street using the ‘contact us’ facility at www.motspurpark-ra.co.uk, which also has news and information about the association.
Hairdresser stabbed himself

A Motspur Park hairdresser may not have been trying to kill himself when he stabbed
himself in the heart after a “petty” argument, an inquest has heard. Marco D’Andrea,
53, was found dead in an alleyway at the back of his garden in Tennyson Avenue on
May 24. An open verdict was recorded.

New officers for West Barnes

PC Chris Worthy and PCSO Michelle Cooper have moved to ‘pastures new’. The West Barnes Community Safe team has welcomed PC Lee Abberton and PCSO James Lewis. “Both are experienced officers who can contribute a great deal,” said Sgt Graham Chapman.
Stolen ring recovered

A diamond and platinum eternity ring stolen from an address in Motspur Park in June 2010 has been recovered by means of a jewellers’ initiative called SaferGems. Click here for full story.

Park hopes to wave the flag

Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields was a Green Flag Award winner in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Now the Friends are crossing their fingers the inspectors will make a similar award this year. Watch this space.

Party night sizzle

The music could be heard across large parts of Motspur Park as friends and families enjoyed a barbecue and disco at Archbishop Tenison's School Sports Ground in Arthur Road on Friday evening. To the strains of several Elvis songs and bursts of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline, youngsters played rounders on the grass as the grown-ups tucked into a tasty meal and swayed to the DJ’s musical choice. In the balmy May evening it finally felt as though summer had arrived.
Growers back online

It’s been offline for several years but the Motspur Park Horticultural Society’s website is now back. ‘It looks great,’ said trading secretary Veronica Parr. Chairman Simon Gagen said he was delighted at finally ‘getting the ball rolling on the website’. While it was down, a heating company in Stroud took over the old web address. So to view the local horticulturalists’ new site go to www.mphs.co.nr.
