The book, cake and toy sale at Holy Cross Church on 22 May, 2010, attracted many visitors, all eager to snap up a bargain and have a chat with friends.

The sun blazed down outside the hall in Adela Avenue as the stall thronged with guests to the free event looking through what was on offer.

Several toy manufacturers had donated goods to be sold to raise money for good causes, and helpers had been busy baking delicious-looking cakes for the occasion.

Snapped up

By the time the MotspurPark.info correspondent arrived nearly all the cakes had been snapped up.

Books of every size, shape and description were there by the table-load – with softbacks a bargain at just 50p each.

Several plants had also been donated by green-fingered supporters.

Vicar Rachel Taylor was on hand to help the occasion go with a swing - and even her mother had come down from Leeds to visit and was taking in the atmosphere - relaxing in the sun for a breather when things got too busy.

All in all a successful and fun event – and made a profit of £807 in aid of Holy Cross Church funds.
