22nd Wimbledon Cub Pack sleeps on HMS Belfast 06/01/11
Twenty-nine Cubs and six leaders met at the Headquarters in Arthur Road, Motspur Park, to head into Central London for a fun-packed weekend on Saturday, 18 December, 2010.
Unfortunately the weather forecast for the weekend was snow and more snow. However, we managed to get on to a train up to Waterloo. We headed straight for HMS Belfast to drop off our bags to go exploring.
Once we had left the Belfast and headed to cross Tower Bridge, the blizzard came – so much so that we could hardly make out the ship from the bridge. We were soon on the Underground and headed for the warm surroundings of the Science Museum, where we spent several hours looking at all the exhibits and, of course, playing in the hands-on area.
It was then time to head back to Tower Bridge for dinner in Ask Restaurant (wouldn't advise taking 29 children to a restaurant) but, fortunately for us (and the restaurant) it was quite quiet due to the snow – until we got there. We had 15 minutes to kill before sitting down, so an impromptu snowball fight was needed.
After dinner, we headed back over Tower Bridge to go ice skating in the shadows of the Tower of London. Despite a few bumps and bruises we all survived and headed back to the ship to settle down for the night. The Cubs were treated to a viewing of Toy Story 3 on DVD with a cup of hot chocolate before quickly going to sleep.
On the Sunday morning, we had breakfast on the ship and then were allowed to look around the ship before heading back to Waterloo to a sea of 'cancelled' or 'delayed' departure boards. We got home eventually (three trains to get to Motspur Park) but were on time.
